This creates a dilemma in the power struggle between machine and humans. They realize that when toys are isolated from humans, they become inanimate objects again. This magic on animals, humans, and things are key in the Pixar universe as all the movies exhibit either talking animals or stand-alone functioning machines. The witch is seen changing humans into animals, making brooms fly and opening portals to other realms. The witch that Merida discovers plays a key role in the magic that allows all the fantastical events to occur. It is the first time in the Pixar films the existence of human-like animals and magical inanimate objects is explained.
The main timeline ends and begins with Brave set in the Dark Ages of Scotland. This is where the Pixar universe diverges from our own universe into an alternate universe). Where the asteroid misses earth, leaving dinosaurs to coexist with the humans. (The actual beginning is The Good Dinosaur, or the reoccurring BNL logos like found on Buzz Lightyear’s batteries (we’ll get back to that later).
